I died for Beauty – but was scarce: Extended

25 Oct

I died for Beauty – but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When One who died for Truth, was lain
In an adjoining Room –

He questioned softly Why I failed?
“For Beauty,” I replied –
“And I – f or Truth – Themself are One –
We Brethren, are,” He said –

And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night –
We talked between the Rooms –
Until the Moss had reached our lips –
And covered up – our names –

And in the next world, I looked for him –
The One who died for Truth
But ‘twas not meant to be –
I think, gone forever was the youth –

I was troubled in my restless state –
And would often cry –
For if One who died for Truth was lost
Then where, pray tell, was I?
